Pre-proposal Procedure

A pre-proposal step has been added to ensure that grant proposals submitted to the foundation for funding meet all federal, state, and local district policies and are aligned to district goals and initiatives to improve student achievement.

Prior to developing a grant, a pre-proposal abstract describing and defining the project must be submitted for approval. This abstract should be a short summary (no more than one page) about what the guarantee is trying to accomplish and why. The summary may also state how the project will be implemented and what results will be expected from the project.
The pre-proposal must include:
  • the contact person
  • the campus
  • the type of grant (individual, team, campus)

Submit the summary to Rosina Valle via email by October 29, 2007 for the Fall semester, and by April 2, 2008 for the Spring semester.

The district's Department of Teaching and Learning will review the pre-proposal to verify that it meets all federal, state, and local district policies and that it is aligned to meet district goals and initiatives that improve student achievement.

The grant applicant will be emailed feedback on the status of the proposed grant.

The summary may be:

  • Approved for continued development and submission.
  • Put on hold pending some required revisions and editing.
  • Declined and not recommended for further development and reasons that will be provided.

The grants which are approved to be developed are due to Rosina Valle's office by November 7, 2007 for the Fall semester, and by April 25, 2008 for the Spring semester.

Grant Development Assistance

The San Marcos Education Foundation is offering an assistance process to increase the number of quality educator-written grants.

Any individual, team, or campus contact person designated to develop a grant, can now dialogue via email with three grant writer assistants. Questions can NOW be sent to the following:

Kim Porterfield
kp10@txstate.edu

Sarah Lesak
jslesak@grandecom.net

All three grant writer assistants will review questions and respond to them. Feedback provided is intended to give the grant writers ideas on how to improve their proposals. The feedback is not intended to "write" the grant but rather to give suggestions on how to improve the submission. The grant writer assistants serve as "coaches" for the process of developing a grant.

The assistance provided to the grant writers will not guarantee approval for the grant. These grant writer assistants will not serve on the review committee that will be awarding grants. The intent is to mentor and assist a grant writer through the process and to provide a support system for those needing assistance to develop and write a grant.
